1. You must find a haunted spot. Good areas are cemeteries, schools, hospitals, churches and houses with reputations of ghosts. 13 most likely to be haunted places

2. DO NOT TRESPASS, the police will come and possibly prosecute you for going on private property. Please get permission before doing any sort of investigation

3. Always carry a flashlight and be careful of adverse conditions at your hunting site. Old buildings have weak floors, and outside locations can be treacherous.

4. Try to stay together as a group, or at least know where members in your group are planning to be at any certain time. Running into a companion in the pitch black can cause quite an unnecessary scare.

5. Be sober. Ghost hunts are not a party and things can get easily out of hand if your members are intoxicated. Drunk persons could have a hard time running from a ghostie and could fall and hurt themselves or their equipment.

6. Don't Smoke, especially while you or someone else is taking pictures. Smoke makes wonderful ectoplasm shots that are not authentic.

7.Keep track of your equipment. You don't want to forget an expensive camera or tape recorder in the dark.

8. Be professional. Pranks and silliness are fun, but tend to hamper investigations. If you're all laughing hysterically (it does happen) you may taint ghostly evidence (like EVP's).
